My name is Anna Mucha. I was born in Poland some time ago...I'm a nursing major and hoping to finish it before getting old and senile.
My son says he hopes I will finish it in time for his wedding.
I love camping, art and books. Maybe not in that particular order, though.
I would love to go to Paris one day, as well as Italy, bur for now closer locations will do just fine.

  1. Hi Anna--good luck with your pursuit of the nursing degree. Paris sounds like a good graduation trip your son should buy you!

  2. "Assignment #2 Symbolism in Steinbeck".

Use of symbolism makes John Steinbeck's writting interesting and thought-provoking.
In one of his short stories, "The Chrysanthemums", he portrays Elisa as a strong woman, who won't let her husband see her cry. She is tough, wearing manly work clothes, but when preparing for her dinner outing with her husband, she is a woman who wants to look and feel good. She throws away her dirty clothes, cleanse herself and looks at herself in the mirror. Then she puts her best clothes on and even some make-up. Unfortunately her husband does not see it and he comments on her looks as nice and strong. Elisa is looking for a different complement altogether. She want her husband to see her as a pretty lady, and to have a conversation with her other than about selling cattle and farm work.
While tending to her garden, a stranger arrives with whom she has a conversation much different than with the man she married. He takes interest in her flowers, and while she talks about them, that's when she comes alive. We can see that her garden is very important to her, she even put a fence around it so it can be safe from cattle, dogs and chickens.
The fence symbolizes ownership, something that is only hers, she is the one taking care of it, and doing so with love. She tend to it as it was a child.
